Homeland Security tests Boston subway for biological agents

The Department of Homeland Security is testing new sensors designed to detect biological agents in the Boston subway system.

The agency’s “Detect-to-Protect” (D2P) Bio Detection project is testing several sensors to alert authorities to the presence of biological material. These devices are designed to confirm the release of biological agents within minutes.

Homeland Security says inert gasses were released in the Boston subway system in August to determine where and how released particulates would travel through the system. It says the test will help determine where exactly to place the new sensors.
